Overview of MOXA W406 Series
The MOXA W406 Series is a family of RISC-based wireless embedded computers designed for industrial data acquisition, remote monitoring, and device control. It combines GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular connectivity with serial, Ethernet, and digital I/O interfaces to connect field equipment with remote systems. Powered by a Cirrus Logic EP9302 ARM9 processor, the W406 Series supports Windows CE 6.0 or embedded Linux, depending on the model. Its compact, fanless design supports DIN-rail or wall mounting in industrial cabinets.
MOXA W406 Series Features
The W406 Series combines multiple interfaces in one embedded platform, reducing the need for separate communication and I/O devices. GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity supports remote data exchange, while SMS tunnel mode provides an additional communication option for supported applications. The SD card slot and USB 2.0 host provide storage expansion and peripheral connectivity. Its fanless construction reduces reliance on moving cooling components, and DIN-rail mounting helps simplify cabinet installation. The combination of serial interfaces, Ethernet, and digital I/O supports integration with existing Network Infrastructure and compatible SCADA systems. Before deployment, verify cellular network availability, software compatibility, and the requirements of the selected model. The W406 Series has been phased out and replaced by the UC-8100 Series, so long-term projects should consider lifecycle and replacement planning.
